The MITx MicroMasters in Data, Economics, and Development Policy (DEDP) is a first-of-its-kind credential to make high-quality education in development economics accessible in a flexible and affordable way. Developed by MIT’s Department of Economics (ranked #1 for graduate-level training in Economics worldwide) and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (a global leader in conducting randomized evaluations to test and improve the effectiveness of programs aimed at reducing poverty) this MicroMasters equips students with both practical skills and theoretical knowledge to examine some of the world’s most pressing questions from a rigorous, data-driven perspective. Through a series five online courses, students will gain a strong foundation in microeconomics, development economics, probability and statistics, get exposure to cutting-edge research in the field, and gain hands-on skills in data analysis and the design and running of randomized evaluations, as well as other econometric methods of evaluating policies and programs. In addition, students successfully complete the MicroMasters classes and their corresponding in-person exams will be eligible to apply to spend one semester at MIT, convert their MicroMasters classes into MIT credit, and earn a Master of Data, Economics, and Development Policy.
